I didn’t think happiness was possible for me anymore…
For a long time, I felt lost in a fog of sadness and exhaustion. After years of feeling unwell, both physically and emotionally, I convinced myself that maybe this was just how life felt as you got older—dull, heavy, and disconnected. I thought, “Maybe I’m just destined to be sad.”
Even though I experienced moments of joy—friendships, a loving relationship, and exciting adventures—the underlying sadness always found its way back. It was like a shadow I couldn’t escape.
If you’ve ever battled depression, you know how much easier it is to put on a “happy” mask than to explain your pain to others. I didn’t want sympathy or unsolicited advice—I just wanted to feel better. But nothing seemed to help.
Physically, my body was screaming for relief. Chronic migraines, random allergies, bloating, nerve pain, eczema, and irregular periods were constant companions. I felt exhausted yet restless. Doctors dismissed my concerns with “normal” test results or prescribed medications that masked symptoms without addressing the root causes.
I tried everything—researching, taking supplements, exercising, meditating, and changing my diet—but nothing brought significant change. My cortisol levels were sky-high, and stress pushed me into unhealthy cycles of restrictive eating and bingeing. I became hyper-focused on fitness as a way to regain control, but even that spiraled into obsession.
Eventually, I reached a breaking point. I felt like a stranger to myself, disconnected from others, and trapped in a cycle of hopelessness.
Then, I met a naturopath who changed everything. For the first time, someone truly listened to me. She didn’t dismiss my symptoms or tell me it was “all in my head.” Instead, she acknowledged my pain and promised to help me find answers.
Through her guidance, we discovered underlying issues like a parasite in my gut and years of damage caused by over-supplementing, stress, and hormonal imbalance. Slowly, with tailored solutions and a lot of patience, my body began to heal. My period returned, my energy improved, and the emotional weight I’d carried for years started to lift.
Looking back, I see how much of my sadness was tied to physical health struggles, unresolved trauma, and the pressure to appear “put together.” I had suppressed my emotions for so long because I didn’t think my pain was “valid” enough. But pain is pain, and it deserves to be acknowledged.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of seeking help, even when you feel like giving up. Whether it’s a trusted professional, a family member, or a friend, there’s strength in asking for support.
If you’re struggling, please know this: Your feelings are valid. Your pain matters. And there is a way forward. Just hold on.
Spend time with loved ones. Get outside and reconnect with the world around you. Listen to your body and prioritize your well-being. Healing takes time and effort, but it’s possible.
You are loved. You are worthy of happiness. And you have the power to create change.
